What is a Junior Assessment?
A Junior Assessment is a non-compulsory activity for young beginners aimed at easing them into a grading cycle, breaking down the syllabus into smaller more manageable chunks, and slowly building up their confidence to perform in front of others.
How does the Junior Belt system work?
When your child starts with us they will be a 10th Kup White Belt; this belt is included with the cost of their outfit. The next official belt in Tae Kwon-Do is 9th Kup Yellow Tag, however younger beginners can take 6 – 12 months to build up to this. For this reason we have adopted the Junior Belt System, a popular system within the South West T.A.G.B., to help bridge this gap. It consists of four belt colours: White Belt Orange Stripe, White Belt Green Stripe, White Belt Blue Stripe and White Belt Red Stripe. They break the syllabus down into four manageable chunks, allowing younger students to gain experience performing in front of others and visually see the progress they are making towards their first official T.A.G.B Grading. This in turn helps to keep them confident and focussed to their goals.
When do Junior Assessments happen?
Junior Assessment Week will occur once every three months, after our quarterly Coloured Belt Grading. If we feel your child would benefit from taking part in an upcoming Junior Assessment and is meeting the required standard in Class, we will text you to invite your child to take part.
How much do Junior Assessments cost?
Junior Assessments cost £7.50 (to be paid to the same account as training fees). This covers the cost of the belt and the certificate. These are cheaper than official T.A.G.B. Gradings as they don’t include T.A.G.B. and Grading Examiner’s fees.
Does my child have take part in Junior Assessments?
No, the Junior Assessments are optional. If your child would like to take part in them then providing they have met the required standard in Class they will be able to do one Assessment every 3 months until they are ready to grade for 9th Kup; so they may only do one or two Assessments, they don’t have to do all four.
When will we find out the result?
We will be handing out belts and certificates the following week after the Junior Assessments. We will take a photo of your child receiving their belt and certificate and send this to you via Whatsapp as we would for a Coloured Belt Grading.
What if my child doesn’t pass the Assessment?
We will only invite your child to take part in a Junior Assessment if they have already proven in class that they are capable of performing everything in that Assessment. In the event that a child decides they don’t want to take part, even after encouragement, we will speak to you after the session and refund you the Assessment fee.
